Ranikhet, India was the site of the first in a series of regional meetings to continue creation of global food systems leadership models. This three-day meeting was hosted by Kalyan Paul of the Pan Himalayan Grassroots Development Foundation and Pawin Padungtod of FAO, both of whom participated in the Bellagio Meeting in December 2008. Partial funding for the meeting was provided by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Global Initiative for Food Systems Leadership. This regional meeting looked at leadership development as it pertains to South Asia. Participants highlighted local initiatives as a strategy for creating a shared sense of ownership for global food systems leadership. At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants produced a declaration which set the tone continuing their work in safe food systems.
Plans for the Africa regional meeting have begun. Information about this meeting will be posted on the GISFL Web site as it becomes available.
